“Today we celebrate that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” wrote Korie Robertson, Phil’s daughter-in-law.
The cause of death was not disclosed, but Jase Robertson, one of the hunter’s sons, said on the family’s podcast that his father was going through the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
“Thank you for the love and prayers from so many whose lives were impacted by his life, saved by grace, by his courageous faith, and by his desire to share the Good News of Jesus with anyone who would listen,” the statement continued.
Phil Robertson founded the company Duck Commander, which has been producing duck calls and other hunting supplies since 1972.
He also starred in the reality show “Duck Dynasty” from 2012 to 2017, aired on the A&E channel. The show featured details of the Robertson family in a sitcom-style format.
In 2013, he was suspended from the show due to controversial remarks about LGBT people in an interview with GQ magazine.
